Description of Gaging Station on -- Pearson Creek near Springfield, MO 07050690

LOCATION.--Lat 38o10'40", long 93o11'53", Greene County, Hydrologic Unit 11010002

Gage may be reached by driving from junction of Highway 65 and State Route D (Sunshine), east 1.6 miles on State Route D to Pinoak, go south 50 ft, turn right (west) on Farm Road 148, then 0.2 mile to bridge/gage.

ESTABLISHMENT.--Established as a U.S. Geological Survey gaging station July 21,1999.

DRAINAGE AREA.-- 21.0 mi2.

GAGE.--Sutron 8200 with an encoder in a metal coffin shelter on an 18 ft. section of 18 inch pipe. Bottom of well is at 1.11 ft. gage height. Encoder is set to read the same as float tape which is an integral part.

Reference gage is a Type-A wire-weight gage mounted to the downstream bridge handrail. Check bar elevation 20.00 ft. gage height.

REFERENCE AND BENCH MARKS.--

R.M. 1 is a chiseled square in the left upstream wingwall. Elevation 17.18 ft. gage height.

R.M. 2 is a chiseled square in the right upstream wingwall. Elevation 17.21 ft. gage height.

R.P. 1 is a penciled arrow on the recorder shelf. Elevation 19.63 ft. gage height.

R.P. 2 is an arrow on the downstream handrail. Elevation 19.82 ft. gage height.

CHANNEL AND CONTROL.--Low flow is split channel made of rocks and gravel with vegetation in the summer months. Both banks are low and subject to overflow.

DISCHARGE MEASUREMENTS.--Wading measurements are made in the vicinity of the gage. High flow measurements are made from the downstream side of the bridge. Bridge stationing is marked in 5 ft. intervals from the left abutment.

POINT OF ZERO FLOW.--1.95 ft. (July 21, 1999).

ACCURACY.--Fair.
